Job Title: CHILD DEVELOPMENT CONSULTANT Hourly Wage: $41.04 – $50.08

Union Grid Level: 14-P-SCDC
Terms: Permanent Full Time 35 hours per week
Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:30 – 4:30 (occasional evening or weekend work may be required)

THE JOB: The NCCS Family Connection Centre serves children, youth, and families in Prince Rupert and the surrounding area. The Child Development Consultant is part of a family-centred, interdisciplinary team supporting children and youth from birth to age 19 who are at risk for developmental delays, have developmental delays, or have a disability.
Reporting to the Developmental Services Team Lead, the consultant supports referral and intake, conducts home and community visits, and works collaboratively with families to identify priorities, set goals, and develop individualized support plans. The role includes parent education and practical strategies to support child development, monitoring progress, connecting families with community services and resources, supporting key transitions and group programs, and collaborating with families, team members, and community partners. The consultant also maintains timely documentation and reporting.
THE CANDIDATE: NCCS is looking for someone who builds respectful relationships with children and families and uses strengths-based, culturally safe, trauma-informed, and family-centred approaches. The successful candidate can work independently and collaboratively with families, colleagues, and community partners.
NCCS requires a motivated individual with the following qualifications:
- Bachelor degree in a field related to child development, social services, nursing, or psychology
- Two years recent related experience with preference for previous experience delivering an Supported Child Development Program or an Aboriginal SCDP
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Core Competencies include:
- Knowledge of child and youth development through age 19, including developmental delays, neurodiversity, and disabilities.
- Ability to support family goal setting, provide parent education, and facilitate groups.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and local supports and services for children and families.
- Strong communication, documentation, and relationship-building skills.
Other Requirements:
- Clear Criminal Record Review
- Physical ability to meet job requirements
- Class 5 driver’s license, satisfactory driver’s abstract, and daily access to a vehicle for work-related travel.
- Child Care First Aid.
