Position Overview

The Child & Youth Care Worker (CYCW) supports the inclusion of children and youth with identified developmental delays, disabilities, and/or neurodiverse needs into family and community life. The purpose of the program is to promote behavioural change and personal growth in children and youth who are having difficulties coping as a result of social, emotional, physical, or cognitive delays. Under the direction of Therapy and/or Behaviour Services the CYCW provides individual intervention sessions, group programs and outreach services that are designed to increase community and life skills and enhance social networks based on established goal-focused plans for behavior management and social and life skills development.

Target Population – Children and youth ages 0-19 with identified disabilities and/or support needs who require goal-focused services to promote functional independence in community and life skills.

Job Duties and Expectations

Works under the supervision of the Team Lead – Goal Based Services
Implements strategies and appropriate therapies for supporting infants and young children with support needs or with likelihood of developmental delay as developed by the supervising professional(s)
Provide direct goal-oriented assistance to a child, youth and/or family.
Plan and conduct individual and/or group sessions to promote skill building in identified need areas.
Ensure a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for children and youth providing age-appropriate activities with adaptations as needed.
Collect information for planning and progress reporting.
Maintain accurate and current file records on all clients.
Work within the community to utilize local resources and programs.
Participate in case conferencing as required.
Connects family to CYSN worker when it is indicted that they qualify for Disability Services.
Participate in and contribute to regular staff meetings.
Flexibility is required to work a variety of shifts to accommodate appointments after school, in the evenings, and on weekends.

Core Competencies

Understanding of and experience working with children and youth living with neurodiversity, physical or cognitive developmental disabilities.

Qualifications

Diploma in a field related to Human/Social Service field or Behaviour Intervention
One year recent related experience
Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Valid driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract, and daily access to a vehicle
Clear Criminal Record review
Emergency Child Care First Aid is an asset.

💼 About the Role

The Intake Coordinator is an essential member of the Family Connection Centre team. Reporting to the Developmental Services Team Lead, the Intake Coordinator provides intake and service coordination for parents and caregivers and their children or youth with support needs. In this role, you will:

Conduct brief screenings and assessments to identify the specific service needs of each child, youth, and family
Provide information about child development, Family Connection Centre services, and other community resources
Connect children, youth, and families with relevant services and support smooth transitions between services
Provide needs-based screening as part of the intake process
Assist families with appointment reminders, service coordination, needs identification, and advocacy
Provide parenting skill-building related to parent-child interaction, child development, discipline and guidance, and behaviour management

THE JOB: The NCCS Family Connection Center offers a variety of programs and services to children, youth, and families in Prince Rupert and the wider geographic area that includes Haida Gwaii. The Behaviour Interventionist (BI) is a member of a family-centered interdisciplinary team providing comprehensive services to children with support needs (ages birth to 19) and their families. The BI provides individualized intervention for children and youth on the Behaviour Intervention Services caseload as assigned and supervised by the Behaviour Consultant. The services provided by the BI provides structured learning opportunities to address identified goals on the Support Plan and facilitate the inclusion and participation of children with identified delays in behavioural needs in home and community settings.
