THE JOB:  NCCS offers a variety of programs and services to children, youth, and families in Prince Rupert and the wider geographic area that includes Haida Gwaii. In collaboration with the Ministry of Children and Family Development and working in the NCCS’s Family Connection Centre’s Inclusive Child Care Services (ICCS), under the supervision of the ICCS Consultant, the ICCS Support Worker provides individualized help for children and youth on the ICCS caseload in childcare settings as assigned by the ICC Consultant.  The services provided by the ICCS Support Worker promote the inclusion and participation of children with identified delays in development or behavioural needs and provides learning opportunities to address goals identified on the Support Plan. 

THE CANDIDATE:  NCCS is looking for an individual who holds the fundamental belief that each individual matters and that quality services include culturally inclusive and trauma informed practices.  As a member of an energetic team, the successful candidate will follow a work schedule to provide child-specific support services at assigned childcare centres and implement strategies and activities contained in the Individual Support Plan.  The Support Worker helps the childcare provider and the ICCS Consultant develop and monitor strategies that facilitate a child’s participation in indoor/outdoor, active/quiet, and personal care activities.  The Support Worker also helps to ensure a healthy and safe environment and identifies and removes potential hazards.  The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to establish and maintain respectful relationships with children, youth, and colleagues.

NCCS requires a motivated individual with the following qualifications:

  • Certificate in Early Childhood Education with an additional competency in special needs or another field related to child development, or human / social services
  • 1-year recent related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience acceptable to the employer and contract manager
  • Valid driver’s license, clear driver’s abstract, and daily access to a vehicle
  • Clear Criminal Record review
  • Physical ability to complete job duties and expectations
  • Current Approved First Aid
